چکیده

Two experiments were conducted to determine whether prostaglandin F2~ (PGF2a) administered to does immediately before natural or artificial insemination would increase the retention of sperm in the reproductive tract. The PGF2~ was injected intramuscularly at 200 /~g/kg of body weight. In the first experiment, 16 estrous does, eight injected intramuscularly with PG2a, were mated naturally and necropsied 3 hr later. In the second experiment, of 2 x 2 design, 32 estrous does, 16 injected with PGF2~, were inseminated artificially with either 34 or 102 million sperm and necropsied 3 hr later. After necropsy, each segment of the reproductive tract was flushed and sperm were counted. In each experiment, the PGF2 a treatment increased by at least threefold the number of sperm recovered from the oviducts, uterus, cervices and vagina, as well as the total number recovered from the reproductive tract. The PGF2a treatment reduced the normal loss of sperm from the reproductive tract during the first 3 hr after insemination. (

Effect of acetylcholine, prostaglandin F2 alpha and estradiol on number of sperm in the reproductive tract of inseminated rabbits.

Acetylcholine, injected im into does immediately after natural mating, significantly increased the number of sperm recovered 1 h later from the vagina and cervices but not from the oviducts. Acetylcholine caused immediate increases in the frequency and amplitude of uterine contractions as measured by strain-gauge force transducers attached to the serosa and recorded by physiograph; contraction ...

Sperm Transport in the Mare Reproductive Tract: A Review

The objective of this study was to review the literature on sperm transport in the mare. During this process the sperm cells must reach the oviducts in order to fertilize the oocyte, but before reaching this site it must go through the uterus that is a hostile environment at this moment since there is an inflammatory reaction in this location that aims to eliminate excess spermatozoa and bacter...

Effect of prostaglandin F2α and GnRH administration at the time of artificial insemination on reproductive performance of dairy cows

The present study aimed to determine the effect of administrating prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α) and GnRH at the time of artificial insemination (AI) on the pregnancy per artificial insemination (P/AI) and the pregnancy survival rate of dairy cows. A number of 830 lactating Holstein cows were randomly divided into four groups. Cows in group 1 (n=200) treated with 150 µg d-cloprostenol. In group 2 (n...

The Effect of Administering Equine Chorionic Gonadotropins (eCG) on Reproductive Performance of Dairy Cows with a CO-Synch + CIDR Protocol and Insemination at a Fixed Time

The success of a fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI) program depends on a high ovulation rate during a short interval. Equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG) has been used in FTAI protocols to improve follicular growth and thereby to produce larger, more responsive follicles for ovulation with increased pregnancy rates. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of eCG on concept...

Increased sperm death in the cervix and uterus of estrous ewes after regulation of estrus with prostaglandin or progestogen.

One-hundred and twenty-three ewes were used in three experiments designed to determine whether the regulation of estrus, by administration of either prostaglandin F2 a (PG) to regress corpora lutea or medroxyprogesterone acetate (MAP) to control the length of the estrous cycle, would increase sperm death in the reproductive tract at the ensuing estrus. Ewes were treated either with PG injected ...
